Wrapping up 2015…I’m ready for you, 2016
Wow! Can you believe it’s officially 2016??! The years seem to fly by way too quickly. Is there a PAUSE button anywhere??
I don’t know about you, but 2015 went by way too quickly for me. So many great (and not so great) things happened this past year and I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge and let 2015 know just what it meant to me.
Let’s start with the “Not-So-Good” shall we? AKA, The NEWS
I wanted to list this first as it’s the most despicable and I like to get the bad out of the way to make room for the good because ain’t nobody got time for it. I can’t get away from this fast enough nor can I list (or want to list) all the terrible, sad, unjust things that happened in this year as it pertained to the relationships between religions, countries, governments, racial groups and civil unrest. I realize this stuff goes on all the time but for some reason, this year in particular (actually the last two years), it has really gotten to me.
I have decided I can’t let this fester within me like it has causing a mild depression. And with this being an election year, I realize it will only get worse. So I am making an intentional effort to avoid the news outlets and any participation in debate this year (knock on wood). I’m SO ready to shake off 2015 and start with a happier mind-set for a happy, healthier me.
But there was also HOPE and GOODNESS!
- The Pope visited the U.S.
I’m not a religious person, but the Pope seems to be one cool dude!
- Blue Bell is…Back….?*
Okay, this one should actually be in the “not so good” category. Good lord, I like ice cream just as much as anyone and Blue Bell is pretty much #1 on my list but ice cream and Listeria do not mix. And just when you thought it was safe to go back to the freezer aisle after the recall, just days before the new year, you find out the Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation against the company. Shakes head… Damn it, Blue Bell! Countless heart-break sessions and tears are counting on you. Get it together! Get.it.together.
- Whip and NeNe! Star Wars! Adele! Cats on the Internet! and THIS BABY pranking her Daddy, etc.!
Basically anything and everything on the interwebs that made me smile, laugh until I cried or spoke to my heart. I’ll take that any day. All.day.long.
And of course good things happened to my family directly:
- A Fit Mom’s Life Launched – Feb 2015
I would be absolutely crazy if I didn’t mention that this here blog you’re reading is now almost a year old! Earlier last year I decided to get back on the blog train and chronicle my healthier living journey. And A Fit Mom’s Life was born. Although, most of my activity seems to have been focused on the social side because frankly it was easier (my A Fit Mom’s Life FB and Instagram pages got plenty of love from me), I hadn’t really focused as much as I should have on the blog side, and for that I’m sorry. Getting back to writing and sharing is the goal for 2015. Basically: more blog love. More learning how to come out of my shell, gain more confidence, provide the best content and hopefully, fingers crossed, attend a blog conference or two this year. I hear great things about BlogHer and Blogalicious so I’m hoping I get to attend a conference to hear, learn from and meet some of my favorite and best bloggers in person!
I’m also looking forward to seeing how this page evolves. I already have ideas and that includes a name change/brand evolution. So stick around, folks. Change is a-comin’.
- College Bound Boys!
I now have TWO, count them, 1, 2…
kids young men in college. Can you believe it?? No? Well how do you think I feel? Both my oldest and my second oldest started new schools in the fall. My oldest, Christian (blue in the middle and yellow shirt) transferred to Texas State as a Junior and moved into his very first apartment! And my newly graduated H.S. Senior, Justis (cap & gown), moved into the dorms as a Freshman at OSU. ::cries mom tears…from my eyes and my wallet::
Fortunately, I’m smack dab in the middle of both schools so it’s nice that they both decided to come stay with us over the extended Winter break. Their younger brother and sister have loved having them around and I suspect a tear or two may be shed by my baby girl when they finally do leave in the coming week (you can see her head full of curls on the far right standing close to her big brother). Regardless, I can’t say enough how PROUD their step-dad and myself, as well as their father and their step-mom, are of these two. Love them to the moon and back!
- PinYada Launched!
PinYada is a startup my husband, Jason, has been working extremely hard on for over a year now and the public beta launched this past summer. If you don’t have it or don’t know what it is, PinYada is an app that allows you to create “moments” for people close to you by pinning messages – aka “Yadas” – that can be opened at a specific time or place. Essentially, PinYada is THE app for Making Someone’s Day.
After years of creating successful apps for brands this is his first foray into the startup world and I am extremely proud of him for both his accomplishment as well as his vision. The fact that a cool app like this is being created in Dallas is impressing some folks in-the-know on both coasts. Currently it is only available on iOS but Android is coming in February. PinYada will be doing BIG THINGS in 2016, so go download the app, pin a Yada and MAKE SOMEONE’S DAY! 🙂
- Summer Road Trippin’
My best friend, Ange, and I planned a family road trip to Destin, FL for our families. We both had talked about a joint family vacation for quite some time and we finally did it. I really wanted this to happen last year since both of my older boys were about to leave the nest for school and I wanted to enjoy one last family vacation with all of my kiddos together before life and schedules made it impossible to do it again in the future. I’m so glad we did. Both families rented beach-front condos for the week with magnificent ocean views. Although we traveled separately (her family drove from Oklahoma and we drove from Texas), we stayed in properties which were next door to each other which made it super easy to hang together but still allowed for our own space.
This was my first time being oceanfront where we faced the water with no obstructions and we were literally SECONDS from the sand. I think I’m spoiled now. It’s truly the ONLY way to do it.
A few days later, my sister and her two children also joined us from Texas and MAN did we have a blast! Dolphin tours, carnivals, walking, touring, swimming until our muscles were sore, eating the most wonderful food, napping on the beach, movie nights… I can’t wait to do it all again!
So many more things happened that I can’t even count and I don’t want to bore you. Even sharing what I did made me….just…happy. SO…thank you 2015! You gave me some great memories and treated me and the family pretty well. Hoping 2016 is bigger, better and healthier than 2015!
How did the year treat you? Are you planning anything big for 2016?
